Jack Coan suffers foot injury, out indefinitely

After an offseason of high praise by coaches and teammates for his leadership development, one of Wisconsin's returning starters is expected to miss some time.

Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Jack Coan suffered a foot injury at practice, and will be out indefinitely, per Jeff Potrykus of the Journal-Sentinel. An updated version of the story indicated that Coan needed surgery and will miss "several weeks," according to Potrykus.

Coan has played in 22 games for the Wisconsin Badgers, throwing for 3,278 yards and 23 touchdowns against just eight interceptions while rushing for another five scores. Coan started all 14 games in 2019 for Wisconsin.

With the injury, it leaves Graham Mertz, Danny Vanden Boom, and Chase Wolf as options to fill in with the first team. All three have a small amount of time on the field in college, combining for eight appearances in the past three years.
