Rodgers sits out of practice, is expected to be ready for Washington

GREEN BAY – Aaron Rodgers did not practice on Wednesday. But that does not mean he wasn’t working.

Two hours, Rodgers reported back to the media assembled at his usual midweek media availability with reporters at his locker. When asked how his thumb, injured on the last play of Green Bay’s loss in London to the New York Giants, Rodgers said, “it was sore after the game. It progressively gets better throughout the week.”

Rodgers indicated he expects to practice the rest of the week, rest during the team’s trip to Washington on Saturday and be ready to play Sunday.

The Packers (3-3) will play the Washington Commanders (2-4) at FedEx Field on Sunday. The game will mark a homecoming of sorts for Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur, who was the then-named Redskins quarterbacks coach from 2010-13.

“We didn’t win as many games I don’t think as any of us would have wanted to there but got a chance to kind of really grow within the (coaching) profession,” LaFleur told reporters on Wednesday. “That was my first opportunity to be a position coach. (I) got to learn from Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan. And was on the same staff with (Los Angeles Rams head coach) Sean (McVay), and (Miami Dolphins head coach) Mike McDaniel. We had a lot of great coaches.”

Packers Gameday coverage on 97.3 The Game begins at 7:00 AM on Sunday morning. The game itself kicks off at noon.
