Here are five players who helped their chances of earning a starting role or making the Packers' 53-player roster to open the 2019 season, as well as three who struggled.
David Michalski of Cheesehead TV takes a look at eight players who saw their fortunes grow or shrink after the debacle against the Raiders on Thursday night.
Players on the rise:
- Trevor Davis: He gave us all a glimpse of what we hoped he would do in his first two years with the Packers, and showed us some added value that he brings to the team in Matt LaFleur's new offense.
- Jake Kumerow: His play on the field thus far has done nothing but back up Rodgers' claims about what a good football player he is.
- Darrius Shepherd: Shepherd continued to wow the Packers with tremendous sideline grabs and strong hands along with fundamentally sound special teams play.
- Ty Summers: He continues to show the Packers that he has the potential to become a rotational player at the inside linebacker position.
- Tim Boyle: The Packers were most efficient when Boyle was under center.
Players who struggled:
- DeShone Kizer: His accuracy and decision-making are suspect at best, which are two intangibles that often do not improve as much as an organization would like them to.
- Sam Ficken: He has yet to prove he can nail a 51-yarder with the pressure on.
- J'Mon Moore: Moore is competing against two players (Shepherd and Lazard) who have absolutely stolen the show in the preseason. This along with inconsistent play and dropped passes has him on the outside looking in.
