Packers win preseason opener over Texans 28-26

Green Bay played largely backups in the first exhibition contest of the season, with the backup quarterback job providing perhaps the most competitive performance of the evening. The Packers defeated the Texans 28-26 on Thursday night at Lambeau Field.

DeShone Kizer played well in the first half, going 8-for-13 with a touchdown and 102 yards passing. Tim Boyle, who is battling for a spot on the roster, finished his work 3-for-5 with two touchdowns and 40 yards through the air.

Plenty of eyes are on the wide receiver battles as well, and while three receivers grabbed touchdown passes, no one receiver took a big step forward.

Defensively, Ka'Dar Hollman grabbed an interception, as did Chandon Sullivan. Hollman is looking to fill a big role on the Packers' defense as they sort through cornerbacks behind Jaire Alexander and perhaps Kevin King.

It was a quiet night in the kicking battle as well, as both Mason Crosby and Sam Ficken hit both of their extra points.

Green Bay will play at Baltimore next Thursday night to take on the Ravens, who blew out Jacksonville 29-0 on Thursday night.
