It's the start of the preseason tonight in Green Bay, where the Packers will try to sort out who fits on their final 53-player roster. Here's four position battles to take note of in action tonight at Lambeau Field against the Houston Texans.
David Michalski of Cheesehead TV offers up four specific areas to keep an eye on, although there are battles all over the roster worth watching.
- Special Teams - It seems like year after year and coach after coach cannot turn this abominable unit around. This absolutely needs to change this year or this team will go from an 8-10 win team to a 5-7 win team.
- Offensive Line - It'll be a chance to see where young players like Cole Madison and Elgton Jenkins are in their development process. I believe there is a real chance that Jenkins and Madison could be in Gutekunst's plans to be the replacements for Corey Linsley and Lane Taylor.
- Cornerback - With Kevin King on the shelf yet again, this preseason should be viewed as an open audition for both Ka'dar Hollman and Tony Brown. Brown and Hollman have been developing nicely during training camp and have done exceptional in one on one coverages thus far.
- Wide Receiver - Beyond Davante Adams, all of the receivers need to make the most of their opportunities and gain the trust of Aaron Rodgers during first-team practice reps and show that they can make plays against proven NFL corners and safeties during their preseason game reps.
