Aaron Rodgers and J.J. Watt won't play, but that doesn't mean tonight's preseason opener between the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans won't hold meaning. Here are five things to watch for in tonight's exhibition contest.
- Injuries. Jace Sternberger, Trevor Davis, Jake Kumerow, Adrian Amos, Za'Darius Smith, and Rashan Gary all appear to have sustained some sort of injury this week in practice. As with any preseason game, avoiding injuries is paramount.
- The backup quarterback battle. With Aaron Rodgers out, that means there will be plenty of work for backup DeShone Kizer who has seen a rough start to his 2019 camp.
- It'll be the first chance to get a look at some of the newcomers including rookies Darnell Savage and Rashan Gary. Hopefully, both will play at least a series.
- Who emerges from a tough position battle at wide receiver. Week one of preseason should provide insight as to what receivers are distinguishing themselves.
- Green Bay’s front seven vs. the Houston offensive line. The Texans selected Alabama State offensive tackle Tytus Howard with their first pick in April. He should have his hands full with the Packers edge group.
