With the signings of Za'Darius Smith and Preston Smith, the drafting of Rashan Gary, and the improvement of players already on the roster, the Green Bay Packers should enjoy a much better pass rush in 2019 under defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.
Cory Jennerjohn of Cheesehead TV took a look at what the Packers have coming in, and based on what the coaches have said and what the media has seen, there's reason to be excited about the new pass rush for the Packers:
The Packers spent $118 million on Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith in the offseason to replace Clay Matthews and Nick Perry. Za’Darius Smith is peaking right now as he tallied 8½ sacks last year and could easily say that he only wants to be a pass rush specialist. And Preston Smith registered 24½ sacks in four seasons in Washington. And there’s also the wild card, Rashan Gary.The rookie from Michigan has played with another gear so far during training camp.
Zachary Jacobson of Cheesehead TV noted that Pettine told reporters Monday that the most improved player from last year on the Packers' defense is defensive lineman Montravius Adams:
"If I had to vote somebody who was most improved from a year ago, it'd be Montravius. It's been pretty obvious with him," Pettine said on Monday.Adams played just under 20 percent of the Packers' defensive snaps last year and played in all 16 games en route to 20 tackles. He also registered 1.5 sacks along with a forced fumble.
