NFL Draft 1st Round Recap: Packers go defense with top two picks

With their first two picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers addressed their defense, selecting edge rusher Rashan Gary and safety Darnell Savage at #12 and #21, respectively. The Packers traded up to get Savage, giving up two fourth-round picks to move up from #30.

Gary, who will play linebacker, edge rusher, and defensive line for the Packers, was picked at #12. He's regarded as a versatile player who was also the top-rated high school player in the Class of 2016.

Savage, who told reporters he could line up anywhere in the secondary or at linebacker, was selected at #21. He's another versatile player who had a productive four-year career at Maryland.

Fans weren't particularly thrilled with the Packers' pick of Rashan Gary, but Gary and Packers GM Brian Gutekunst did not seemed concerned with a shoulder injury Gary suffered while at Michigan.
