Packers will pick at #12 in first round of 2019 NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers will pick #12 overall for the fifth time in NFL Draft history. The 2019 NFL Draft will be held in Nashville, Tennessee April 25-27 this year.

Arizona, who defeated the Packers earlier this month, will pick #1 overall.

Green Bay has selected #12 four times in team history, most recently in 1984, when they selected defensive end Alphonso Carreker out of Florida State. Carreker had 18.5 sacks for the Packers in 72 games played.

Notably, Green Bay selected future Hall of Fame defensive back Herb Adderly of Michigan State #12 overall in 1961. Adderly had 48 career interceptions (39 of them for the Packers).

The other #12 picks were defensive tackle Rich Moore of Villanova in 1969, who didn't record a sack in 20 career games over two seasons, and running back Barty Smith of Richmond in 1974, who transitioned to fullback midway through his tenure in Green Bay and had 18 career rushing touchdowns to go with 3 career receiving scores.

The Packers also hold New Orleans' first-round draft pick, which will be near the end of the first round, and their own second-round pick, giving them three picks in the top 44 selections. Some of the Packers' late first-round picks (28-32, where the Saints' pick will fall given that they had the best record in the NFL) in the past few decades have been players such as defensive end Ezra Johnson in 1977, safety George Teague in 1993, linebacker Nick Barnett in 2003, tackle Ross Verba in 1996, cornerback Damarious Randall in 2015, cornerback Craig Newsome in 1995, and tackle Derek Sherrod in 2011.
