Packers president Mark Murphy discussed the decision to fire Mike McCarthy, saying that it was the right time to make the change and will give Green Bay more time to research who they want to bring on board after the end of the 2018 season.
Murphy says the decision to fire someone is always difficult, but McCarthy was very professional when he received the news. Murphy added that the timing is also good for McCarthy, since he will be one of the top candidates for other teams in the offseason.
Murphy appeared on 1310 WIBA in Madison on the Thursday following the head coaching change. Joe Philbin will be the interim coach for the rest of the season.
