The Green Bay Packers have signed C Corey Linsley to a contract extension. The signing was announced Saturday by Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations.
Linsley, who was drafted out of Ohio State as the first of two choices in the fifth round (161st overall) by the Packers in 2014, has started all 53 regular-season games he has played in over four years, including being the only Green Bay offensive lineman to start every game this season. He has also started all seven of the Packers postseason contests since 2014.
The Youngstown, Ohio native is part of a line that has cleared the way for a running game that has averaged 4.52 yards per carry this season, No. 5 in the NFL. Since Linsley joined the Packers in 2014, Green Bay has averaged 4.42 yards per carry to rank No. 5 in the league over that span. Dating back to 2014, the Packers rank No. 2 in the NFL in percentage of rushing plays of 10-plus yards (12.8), according to STATS.
Linsley contributes to an offense that has averaged 25.3 points per game since 2014, the fifth most in the NFL over that span. He became the first rookie center to open every game for the Packers since the league went to a 16-game schedule in 1978 and was the first Green Bay center to be named to the PFWA’s All-Rookie team since its inception in 1974.
