The Madison Mallards (33-20) were defeated 2-0 by the Lakeshore Chinooks (25-28) on Monday at Kapco Park. The Mallards mustered together just four hits, coming from three different players and ended up stranding eight on base in a swift two-hour, 11-minute contest.
Lakeshore got the first run of the game in the third inning on an RBI single from Daryl Myers (Benedictine College) and extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Myers.
Jarod Large (North Iowa Area CC) earned his second win of the year after going six strong innings on the mound for the Chinooks. Large allowed just two hits and struck out four.
Trevor Marreel (Washburn) took a tough-luck loss for the Mallards after crafting six dominant innings of his own. Marreel yielded just one earned run. Brendan McGuigan (Richmond) notched the save for Lakeshore.
The Mallards close their three-game road trip with the series finale against the Lakeshore Chinooks. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from Kapco Park.
