The Madison Mallards won another contest in exciting fashion on Sunday when they defeated the Wisconsin Woodchucks 4-3 at Athletic Park. The Mallards are now a perfect 6-0 to begin the 2019 season and swept the first matchup of the season between the in-state foes.
Drew Williams (San Jose State) was clutch late in the game for the Mallards. His RBI single in the seventh inning tied the game 3-3. In the ninth, Williams drilled a double to give Madison a 4-3 lead.
The Woodchucks loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and had the winning run on second base with two out. A few pitches later, the Chucks bounced into a fielder’s choice to second base to end the game and seal the Madison victory.
The Mallards return home to Warner Park and host the Lakeshore Chinooks on Monday for the first game of a two-game series. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. and is Sunbelt Rentals Tots N’ Trucks Night at the Duck Pond.
