Ric Bucher: Anthony Davis is Not a Superstar

Ric Bucher: “I keep hearing over and over ‘If the Lakers are going to win, AD has to be the driving force, and AD has to be the go-to guy'… AD is very good one-on-one on the block, but if you saw early on in the Clippers game, any time they muddied it up or sent a double-team, AD is NOT a playmaker. He’s a phenomenal talent but he’s not a playmaker, which is why you’re not going to give the ball to him on the block and expect plays for himself or somebody else… When he was in New Orleans he was there for seven seasons and they made the playoffs twice. Once it was a tie-breaker with an Oklahoma City team that was missing Kevin Durant for all but 27 games, and Westbrook played only 60+. They were an injured team and the Pelicans snuck in and promptly got swept out. The next time was 2018, and they got in as the six seed and upset Portland – which had a lot to do with Jrue Holiday and Rajon Rondo locking up CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard, and Anthony Davis outplayed Jusuf Nurkic. Why do we keep talking about Anthony Davis like he’s Kevin Garnett, or Derrick Rose, or one of these guys that is a superstar who can carry a team?? He had seven seasons to do that in New Orleans and they only got to the playoffs twice, and I can’t say they got their twice all on his back… The idea that he’s now going to carry this Lakers team to a championship, having never been past the second round in his eighth season? I just don’t understand why we keep talking about this.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to NBA insider Ric Bucher explain to Colin Cowherd why he doesn’t believe Lakers forward Anthony Davis a legitimate NBA superstar who can carry a team, despite many pundits around the league acting like the Lakers’ title hopes come down to whether Davis can take over games with the help of NBA assist leader LeBron James.

Check out the video above as Bucher details why he thinks the Lakers title hopes have everything to do with LeBron, and not much to do with AD, who Bucher says is a ‘phenomenal talent’, but not a ‘playmaker.’
