Bucks trade first-round pick, Tony Snell for Jon Leuer

In a move that frees up financial flexibility in 2020 and beyond, the Milwaukee Bucks offloaded Tony Snell and their first-round pick in this year's NBA Draft on the Detroit Pistons in exchange for the expiring contract of former Wisconsin Badger Jon Leuer.

Snell had a $12.2 million player option for 2020-21, something that the Bucks wanted to avoid having to pay.

With the move, the Bucks also clear the cap hold that the first-round pick created, and with the difference in salary between Snell and Leuer, the Bucks also shave a few million dollars off of 2019-2020's books as well.

It was reported that the Bucks are working on a long-term deal with Khris Middleton, who opted out of his contract on Wednesday. One report had it as five years for near-max money.

The Bucks also have the free agencies of Brook Lopez and Malcolm Brogdon to resolve.

Milwaukee no longer holds a draft pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, although they could still buy a second-round pick if they wanted to get back in.
