It was a playoff atmosphere on Saturday night at American Family Field. Two of the top teams in baseball battling and a Milwaukee Brewers outfielder making his MLB debut. That young man? Sal Frelick.
Frelick has been a highly regarded prospect within the Milwaukee Brewers system since being drafted by the team in 2021. A quick rise through the system landed Frelick in the starting lineup for his MLB debut on Saturday and he did not disappoint.
The outfielder made two incredible catches in the sixth inning, went 3 for 3, and drove in the game winning run in the Brewers 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves.
Adrian Houser pitched six innings and the only runs he allowed were on a three-run home run by Austin Riley that gave Atlanta a 3-0 lead in the third inning. However, the Brewers battled back.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Milwaukee scored two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2. Scoring the first run was Frelick.
Guess who tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning? Yes, Frelick. An RBI single by the rookie scored Andruw Monasterio and tied the game at three.
In the eighth inning, with Willy Adames at third base with one out, Frelick hit a sharp line drive to right field. Adames tested the arm of Ronald Acuna Jr. and scored on the fly ball, giving Milwaukee a 4-3 lead.
Devin Williams allowed the Braves to load the bases in the ninth inning, but struck out Ozzie Albies to secure his 25th save of the season. The Brewers won 4-3. Listen to the postgame show from Saturday night below.
