William Contreras had himself quite a night on Wednesday. Contreras had two RBI-doubles in the last three innings that gave the Milwaukee Brewers the 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Contreras also caught a runner stealing in the ninth inning.
The Brewers grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning behind a rally that included Jahmai Jones, Andruw Monasterio, and Blake Perkins contributing. Plus, Christian Yelich finished off the rally with a double that scored Perkins.
The Phillies slowly clawed their way back against Brewers starter Colin Rea. In the fourth inning, Nick Castellanos hit a solo home run to make the score 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kyle Schwarber hit a two-RBI single that tied the game at three.
But as mentioned, Contreras came through with clutch knocks in the seventh and ninth innings to give Milwaukee a 5-3 lead. The bullpen didn’t allow a run over four innings and the Brewers won 5-3.
The Milwaukee bullpen hasn’t allowed a run in six straight games. That is 19.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
Milwaukee is 53-43.
The Brewers will play the finale of the series on Thursday morning at 11:35am in Philadelphia, before coming home to Milwaukee for a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves.
