Usually Max Scherzer is a tough customer to beat. However, the Milwaukee Brewers have been able to do earn a victory against Scherzer twice this season. The second instance came on Thursday night when the Brewers clinched a series victory over the New York Mets with a 3-2 win.
Scherzer had shut down the Brewers offense through five innings and two solo home runs had the Mets up 2-0. However, Victor Caratini changed that in the top of the sixth inning. He hit a two-run home run to tie the game at two.
In the seventh inning, the Brewers took the lead. They loaded the bases with one out. Brian Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield to score the run from third base and give Milwaukee the 3-2 lead.
The Brewers bullpen was sensational again and held the lead. Elvis Peguero induced a double play in the seventh inning with the bases loaded to preserve the lead. Joel Payamps and Devin Williams threw scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings respectively. Milwaukee won 3-2 and took three of the four games against the Mets in the series.
