The Milwaukee Brewers have been known to lack insurance runs this season, but that was not the case on Wednesday night. Milwaukee led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, and Christian Yelich hit a two-out, two-RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2. That would be the final as Milwaukee took the third game of the series against the New York Mets.
The Brewers offense got going early when Jesse Winker gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-RBI double.
The Mets climbed back and tied the game in the fourth inning.
In the sixth inning, Blake Perkins knocked in a run to give Milwaukee a 3-2 lead.
After Yelich’s clutch knock in the eighth inning, Joel Payamps and Devin Williams slammed the door on the mound to preserve the 5-2 lead and earn the win for the Crew.
