The losing streak is over. After losing six straight games, the Milwaukee Brewers hung on for a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The win puts the Brewers in first place in the NL Central.
The Brewers got their offense going right away. A two-run single by Blake Perkins highlighted a three-run first inning for Milwaukee. They led 3-0.
Carlos Santana hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning for Pittsburgh to cut the Brewers lead to 3-1.
However, Milwaukee added a run in the fourth inning to make it 4-1.
The Pirates scored in the top of the sixth inning, but the Brewers answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run from Joey Wiemer. It was the ninth home run of the season for Wiemer. The Brewers led 5-2.
In the seventh inning, Elvis Peguero relieved Julio Teheran and allowed two runs to close the gap to 5-4.
Joel Payamps threw a scoreless eighth inning.
In the ninth inning, Devin Williams ran into trouble with runners at second and third with one out. However, he was able to wiggle out of it and the Brewers won 5-4 to snap the skid.
