Mitchell’s Walk-Off Home Run Gives Brewers Sweep of Mets

The Brewers brought out the brooms on Wednesday afternoon and completed a sweep of the New York Mets by winning the series finale 7-6.

How did they secure that win? Garrett Mitchell’s third home run of the series. Mitchell hit a walk-off solo home run to give Milwaukee their fifth straight win.

The Mets struck first against Brewers starter Corbin Burnes, scoring a run in the first inning. The Brewers struck back in the second inning, when Wisconsin native Owen Miller drove in a run with a single. The next batter, Joey Wiemer, hit a three-run home run to give the Brewers a 4-1 lead. It was Wiemer’s first major league home run.

The Mets answered right back in the top of the third inning with three runs to tie the game at four.

Both teams scored two runs in the fifth inning. After falling behind in the top half of the inning 6-4, the Brewers scored on Jesse Winker’s two-RBI double. The game was tied at six.

Both bullpens held serve until the 9th inning, when Mitchell hit the walk-off home run to give the Brewers a 7-6 win.

Burnes didn’t have his best stuff on Wednesday. He want just over four innings, allowed six earned runs on seven hits, and struck out just three Mets.

But the bullpen was near perfect for Milwaukee, again. Hoby Milner, Peter Strzelecki, Matt Bush, and Devin Williams all pitched scoreless frames.

The Brewers are 5-1 to start the season. They are off on Thursday before hosting the Cardinals for a weekend series starting on Friday night at 7:10pm.
