Clutch Single By Contreras Leads Brewers Past Cubs 3-1

The Milwaukee Brewers hadn’t scored a run for a franchise record 16 innings to start the season and the team was down 1-0 to the rival Chicago Cubs to begin the eighth inning. However, Milwaukee scored three runs in the inning to gain a 3-1 lead, and never looked back. The bullpen nailed down the first win of the season as the Brewers beat Chicago 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley field.

The eighth inning was highlight by a game-tying single by Jesse Winker and a two-run single by William Contreras to give the Brewers the lead. Bryce Turang and Garrett Mitchell both scored on Contreras’ clutch knock. Matt Bush earned his first hold of the season and Devin Williams earned his first save to seal the deal.

Brandon Woodruff was dominant in his first start of the season. He went six innings, allowed just one run, and struck out eight batters.

Peter Strzelecki earned the win with his shutout frame in the seventh inning.

The Brewers are 1-1 and will play the rubber match of the series on Sunday afternoon in Chicago at 1:20pm. Tim Allen will have The Baseball Postgame Show presented by Hitters Baseball Academy immediately following the final out on 97.3 The Game in Milwaukee.
