Brewers Hit Only Singles in 4-1 loss to Cardinals

The offense was alive, but the hits only came in singles on Wednesday night as the Brewers struggled to score in their 4-1 loss to St. Louis.

10 hits will usually win you a ballgame, but all of those hits were singles for Milwaukee which led to 11 runners being left on base and just one run tallied.

The Brewers got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Tyrone Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to score Jace Peterson from third base. Unfortunately, that lead didn’t last long.

In the bottom of the second inning, Nolan Arenado hit a solo home run to tie the game at one. Later in the inning, Yadier Molina drove in a run on an RBI single and the Cardinals led 2-1 after two innings.

St. Louis would tack on another run in the 5th inning with a home run by Lars Nootbar. That extended the lead to 3-1.

Corbin Burnes had a solid outing for Milwaukee. He went seven innings, allowed three runs, and struck out five Cardinals in the loss.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Albert Pujols hit a double to the wall to drive in another run and put the Cardinals up 4-1. That would be the final score.

The Padres also lost on Wednesday, so the Brewers remain two games back of the final wild card spot in the National League with just 19 games to play.

Milwaukee is off on Thursday before starting a three-game weekend series against the New York Yankees at home on Friday night at 7:10pm. After the last pitch, listen to Tim Allen on the Realty Executives Baseball Postgame Show on 97.3 The Game.
