Brewers Score Early And Often To Support "Bullpen Day" In 8-4 Victory

The Milwaukee Brewers entered St. Louis needing to get on a hot streak and rack up some wins against the NL Central leading Cardinals and they were able to accomplish just that on Tuesday night in an 8-4 victory.

Things were off to a rollercoaster start. Willy Adames got things going with an RBI double to score Mike Brosseau and then Andrew McCutchen doubled to score Adames. It was a 2-0 lead for Brewers "starter" Matt Bush. However Bush only lasted three batters and left with a groin injury. Peter Strzelecki then came in and on the first pitch he threw he allowed a two run double and the game was quickly tied.

Then an Albert Pujols single gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead. In the top of the 2nd, Willy Adames added an RBI single to tie the game back up, then a Christian Yelich fielder's choice gave the Brewers a 4-3 lead. In typical Cardinals fashion, they answered with a Tommy Edman RBI single off Luis Perdomo in the bottom half to tie the game up at 4-4.

But that would be all the Cardinals would get. Brad Boxberger, Hoby Milner, Justin Topa, Taylor Rogers, and Brent Suter combined to shut down the Redbirds and not allow a hit over the final six innings.

Meanwhile the Brewers offense continued to add on runs, with an Andrew McCutchen two run homer in the 5th, a Christian Yelich RBI HBP in the 6th, and then a Hunter Renfroe RBI single in the 8th to give the Crew and 8-4 victory.

This was an important win against a division rival that's ahead of them in the standings, especially using entirely bullpen arms for this game. They have their ace, the reigning NL Cy Young Corbin Burnes (10-6, 2.93 ERA) on the mound on Wednesday against Adam Wainwright (10-9, 3.33 ERA).
