Brewers Waste Woodruff's Gem, Suffer Brutal 10-7 Loss In Extras To Rockies

It was all going according to plan, until it wasn't. The Brewers received a gem from co-ace Brandon Woodruff, who twirled seven innings of one run ball, but they somehow ended up losing 10-7 in extra innings.

It all started with a bang as Christian Yelich crushed a 499 foot home run to lead off the game. The Brewers would have a 3-0 lead before the first inning was over.

Omar Narvaez would add another couple of runs in the 4th inning to answer a Elehuris Montero homer in the 3rd to make it a 5-1 game. Willy Adames would add an RBI double in the 7th and the Brewers led 6-1 heading into the 8th inning. Sounds comfortable, right? Wrong.

In the span of four batters and eight pitches, Luis Perdomo allowed four runs to score and the Rockies were within one. He was replaced by Peter Strzelecki, who allowed a home run to Randal Grichuk to tie the game at 6.

The game went into extra innings and the Brewers quickly took a lead on a Willy Adames double, but then Taylor Rogers entered for the bottom of the 10th after the Brewers failed to add on. On the first pitch he threw, Rogers gave up the lead, allowing a game-tying double. A few batters later, Rogers would give up a mammoth walk off home run to Grichuk and the Rockies won 10-7.

Woodruff tossed a gem, the offense gave him run support, and the bullpen completely collapsed. In a time of the season where every game counts and the Brewers really need to get on a run and stack up some wins, this will go down as one of the worst losses of the season.

They'll try again on Wednesday with Eric Lauer (10-6, 3.54 ERA) on the mound against Kyle Freeland (7-9, 4.75 ERA).
