A four-run sixth inning propelled the Brewers to a much needed win on Monday afternoon over the Colorado Rockies 6-4.
Adrian Houser, making just his second start after a long IL stint, had a rough first inning. He gave up three runs without recording an out through the first five batters of the game. However, Houser settled down after the first inning. He sat down 15 Rockies in a row to finish a solid outing of five innings with two strikeouts and just one earned run allowed.
The Brewers offense started their comeback in the fourth inning when Andrew McCutchen and Jace Peterson each knocked in a run. Colorado’s lead was cut to 3-2.
The Brewers took the lead in the sixth inning. They loaded the bases with one out and Jace Peterson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Rowdy Tellez. That tied the game at three. Then, with two outs, Victor Caratini stepped to the plate. He hit a three-run home run over the right field fence to give the Brewers a 6-3 lead. It was Caratini’s first home run since August 4th.
The Rockies scored a run in the 8th inning, which prompted Devin Williams to relieve Taylor Rogers an inning earlier than usual. Williams took the mound with the bases loaded and two outs in the 8th inning. He struck out the batter to get out of the jam. He earned the four-out save in the 9th inning and the Brewers won 6-4. It was the first multi-inning save of the Williams’ career.
The Brewers will play the second game of the three-game series in Colorado on Tuesday night at 7:40pm. After the last pitch, make the switch and listen to Tim Allen on the Realty Executives Baseball Postgame Show on 97.3 The Game.
