Brewers Blanked In Desert As Crew Loses 5-0 To Diamondbacks

The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off back-to-back series wins and have had their rosters expanded, but they weren't able to carry their momentum over on Thursday night in the desert as the Crew fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0.

Brandon Woodruff got the start for the Brewers and did not have his best stuff. He hung a breaking ball to Christian Walker, who crushed it for a two run homer to give Arizona an early 2-0 lead. The DBacks would add on in the 2nd inning on an RBI single from Geraldo Perdomo.

Meanwhile, Merrill Kelly was dealing for Arizona, going seven strong shutout innings, allowing just four hits, no walks, and striking out seven.

It didn't help that the Brewers lost leadoff man Christian Yelich in the 4th inning as he left the contest with neck discomfort. He was replaced by Tyrone Taylor. But no one on the rest of the offense was able to get anything going against Kelly or the Arizona bullpen.

Arizona would add on two more against Woodruff in the 6th inning on a 2 RBI double from Josh Rojas.

The Brewers will hope to bounce back on Friday night with Eric Lauer (10-5, 3.58 ERA) on the mound for Milwaukee against former Brewer Zach Davies (2-4, 3.82 ERA) for Arizona. Lauer and Davies were traded for each other back in November 2019, along with Luis Urias and Trent Grisham.
