Clutch Homers By Mitchell and Hiura Power Brewers to 7-5 Win Over Pirates

Two first round picks got the job done on Monday night for the Brewers in their 7-5 win over the Pirates. Garrett Mitchell (2020 first round pick) hit a two-run game-tying home run in the eighth inning and Keston Hiura (2017 first round draft pick) hit a walk-off two-run home run in the ninth inning to give the Brewers the win.

The Brewers got their first runs in the third inning. Willy Adames hit a RBI single and Hunter Renfroe hit a two-RBI double down the right field line. The Brewers led 3-0.

Corbin Burnes threw four scoreless innings, but a four-run fifth inning for the Pirates changed his night. The inning was highlighted by an Oneil Cruz three-run home run that gave the Pirates their first lead of the night at 4-3. Cruz has eleven home runs on the season and six of them have been hit against Milwaukee.

Rodolfo Castro added another run for the Pirates in the sixth inning with a solo home run off of Burnes. Burnes finished with six innings pitched, five earned runs given up, five strikeouts, and one walk.

The game remained tied until the eighth inning. Omar Narvaez earned a two-out walk and Garrett Mitchell stepped up to the plate in his third day as a big leaguer. He proceeded to hit a two-run home run to the Toyota Territory at AmFam Field and tie the game. It was his first career home run and prompted a curtain call from the Brewers faithful.

Devin Williams pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Brewers.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Willy Adames led off with a single. Keston Hiura was the next batter and tried to bunt the first pitch, but it went foul. Later in the at-bat he hit a two-run home run just over the left field wall to win the game and walk-off the Pirates. The Brewers won 7-5 and have won three games in a row.

The Brewers will go for their fourth straight win on Tuesday night at 7:10pm against the Pirates in Milwaukee.
