Brewers Fall To Cubs 8-7 As Crew's Three Home Runs Weren't Enough

In a back and forth, windy day on Chicago's north side, the Milwaukee Brewers fell short against the Cubs, losing 8-7.

The Brewers got off to a solid start, with a two run homer from Andrew McCutchen, his third long ball in the last two games. But the Cubs answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the 1st.

The Cubs would add another run in the 2nd to make it a 4-2 lead, but Milwaukee bounced right back in the top of the 3rd with home runs from Rowdy Tellez and Hunter Renfroe to give Crew a 5-4 lead. Chicago would answer with a two run homer from Patrick Wisdom in the bottom of the 5th and once again take a lead from the Crew.

However, the Brewers lineup just would not go away as they scored two more runs in the top of the 6th to take a 7-6 Milwaukee lead. But in the bottom half of the inning, Christopher Morel slugged a two run homer to give the Cubs an 8-7, and that's how the score would stay as the Brewers lost the series opener in Wrigley.

Hoby Milner took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year. Aaron Ashby went five innings for the Crew, allowing six earned runs while striking out eight. The Brewers have lost 11 of Ashby's last 12 starts.

The Brewers will look to bounce back on Saturday with Freddy Peralta (4-3, 4.21 ERA) on the mound against Marcus Stroman (3-5, 3.96 ERA) of the Cubs.
