McCutchen Hits Two Homers in Brewers 5-3 Win Over Dodgers

The Brewers earned a series split with the Dodgers on Thursday with a 5-3 win.

Andrew McCutchen got the Brewers on the board first with a solo home run in the first inning. It was his 12th of the season and gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, McCutchen did it again with a two-run home run to extend the Brewers lead to 3-0.

The home run ball was contagious for Milwaukee. Hunter Renfroe hit his 21st home run of the season in the fifth inning. It was a two-run home run to give the Brewers a 5-0 lead.

Corbin Burnes ran into trouble in the sixth inning. He allowed three runs including a two RBI triple by Gavin Lux. The Dodgers cut the deficit to 5-3.

However, the Brewers bullpen shut down the Dodgers lineup the rest of the way. Brad Boxberger, Matt Bush, Taylor Rogers, and Devin Williams were excellent out of the bullpen for Craig Counsell. All four pitchers held the Dodgers potent lineup scoreless. The Brewers earned the 5-3 win.

The Brewers sit three games behind St. Louis in the NL Central. They will begin a weekend series at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon at 1:20pm.
