A day that started with promise, ended with disappointment as the Brewers lost 8-6 to the Nationals on Saturday for their eighth consecutive loss.
Christian Yelich started the game with a leadoff home run to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. However, that lead only lasted 2 innings, as the Nationals scored four runs in the 3rd inning, to take a 4-1 lead. Just like that, the Brewers found themselves having to make a significant comeback yet again during this tumultuous stretch.
In the fifth inning, the Nationals extended that lead to 8-1 with another four run inning. Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz, and Josh Bell all hit home runs against Eric Lauer. The Brewers made a valiant effort at a comeback scoring five unanswered runs in the last three innings, but it wasn't enough. Luis Urias and Mark Mathias hit late home runs for the Brewers.
Eric Lauer had his worst start of the season. He went five innings, allowed eight earned runs, and struck out just two Nationals.
The Brewers have lost eight straight games for the first time since 2015.
The Brewers will try to avoid getting swept for the second time this week when they finish up the series on Sunday at 12:35pm in Washington.
