The Brewers lost their fourth game in a row on Tuesday night, with a 3-2 loss to the Phillies at American Family Field.
The Brewers had a 2-1 lead after four innings. After a solid start from Jason Alexander, the bullpen was dynamite for the Brewers until the 9th inning. Holby Milner, Brad Boxberger, and Devin Williams all pitched scoreless innings. In the 9th inning, Josh Hader came in to try to break the MLB record with his 41st consecutive scoreless appearance. However, the Phillies had other plans. Matt Vierling and Alec Bohm hit home runs off of Josh Hader to take a 3-2 lead. It was the first run Josh Hader had given up since July of last year.
The Brewers stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning.
After taking much criticism for being hitless in June, Christian Yelich went 2 for 4 and scored the only two runs for the Brewers in the loss. He scored on an Andrew McCutchen double in the first inning and a Rowdy Tellez double in the fourth inning.
Jason Alexander made his second start in the majors for the Brewers and had traffic on the base paths throughout his outing. However, the defense came through behind him with Pablo Reyes, Luis Urias, and others making nice plays in the infield. Alexander went five innings, allowed seven hits, but just one earned run.
The Brewers will play the second game of the three game series against the Phillies on Wednesday night at 7:10pm in Milwaukee.
