With Off Day Looming, Brewers Lose 6-4 to Padres in 10 Innings

Playing their 18th game in 17 days, the Brewers lost 6-4 to the San Diego Padres in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon. Injuries and fatigue had to have played a role in the lack of offense over the weekend, and the off day on Monday couldn’t come soon enough for Milwaukee.

Milwaukee mustered up four runs in the series finale, three of which via Kolten Wong. The Brewers struck first on a Kolten Wong leadoff home run in the first inning and led 1-0.

That lead held up until the 5th inning when the Padres snatched the lead. A leadoff double by Trent Grisham was followed up by an error by Pablo Reyes to put runners at first and third with nobody out. A bloop single by Jurickson Profar tied the game at one. The next batter, Jake Cronenworth, singled to right field to bring in the second run for the Padres. Luke Voigt then grounded out, but Jurickson Profar scored to extend the lead to 3-1.

In the 8th inning, Kolten Wong hit his second home run of the day to tie the game at three.

Josh Hader pitched a scoreless 9th inning to tie the MLB record for most consecutive scoreless appearances at 40.

The game went to extra innings. The Padres scored first in the 10th inning on a home run by Jake Cronenworth off of Trevor Gott. The Brewers scored on an RBI single by Andrew McCutchen in the bottom of the 10th inning. Rowdy Tellez subsequently grounded into a double play to end the game with a 6-4 final score.

Eric Lauer had another solid outing for Milwaukee. He went six innings and allowed just one earned run. His ERA now sits at 2.38.

The Brewers will have a much needed off day on Monday before opening a home series against the Phillies on Tuesday night at 7:10pm.
