Brewers Snap Skid As Peralta Cruises Crew Past Reds 5-4

Freddy Peralta has struggled through his first few starts in 2022, but he had a solid outing on Tuesday night against the Reds, allowing just one run in 5.2 IP as the Brewers snap their three game losing skid and beat the Reds 5-4.

Peralta avoided first inning troubles, which have plagued him, but he did give up a run in the second inning on back to back doubles by the Reds.

That lead wouldn't last long for Cincinnati as Luis Urias answered back in the top of the 4th when Luis Urias slugged a solo home run to tie the game.

The Brewers would end up taking the lead in the 6th inning as they got to Reds starter Hunter Greene and Jace Peterson brought home Tyrone Taylor on a double to put Greene on the hook for the loss. With the bases loaded and one out facing reliever Tony Santillan, Kolten Wong got a sacrifice fly to left to bring home Peterson to make it a 3-1 Brewers lead.

Milwaukee would add a few more insurance runs in the 8th on RBI singles from Victor Caratini and Willy Adames. Those insurance runs would prove quite necessary as Devin Williams had an uncharacteristically poor outing in the bottom of the 8th, giving up three walks and then a 2 RBI double to Tyler Naquin to cut the game to a 5-4 Brewers lead. Luis Perdomo would finish the inning on an incredible diving catch by Luis Urias at shortstop to rob the Reds of what would've been the go-ahead runs.

With Urias saving the lead, Josh Hader locked it down in the 9th inning, getting a pair of strikeouts and reaching 500 Ks for his career. He achieved this milestone in the fewest amount of games pitched of any reliever, making MLB history.

Freddy Peralta gets the win and improves to 2-1 on the season, Hunter Greene takes the loss and falls to 1-5. Hader gets his 12th save of 2022.

The Brewers look for a series victory in the rubber match on Wednesday with Adrian Houser (3-2, 3.42 ERA) on the mound for the Crew against Vladimir Gutierrez (0-5, 8.86 ERA) for the Reds.
