Brewers sign pitcher David Phelps to one-year deal

Milwaukee made a bullpen move on Thursday.

Milwaukee signed 33-year-old relief pitcher David Phelps, who spent last year with the Blue Jays and the Cubs, to a one-year contract with a club option for 2021.

To make room for Phelps, the Brewers designated Deolis Guerra for assignment.

Last year, Phelps appeared in 41 games with one start between Toronto and Chicago, pitching 34 and 1/3 innings with 36 strikeouts against only 17 walks.

In Phelps' career, he has a 3.86 ERA in 588 innings pitched, which also includes stints with the Yankees, Marlins, and Mariners.

While Phelps is a former starter, Brewers GM David Stearns says that Phelps was signed to be a reliever.
