A Brewers mainstay may be on a farewell tour this season.
Ryan Braun told reporters at Sunday's Brewers On Deck event that 2020 might be his last season, as this year represents the final guaranteed season on his contract.
Braun, who will turn 36 this year, suggested that this season brings a sense of 'urgency' and that with his family growing at home, 2020 could be it.
A decision on retirement wouldn't be made until after this season concludes. Braun has a mutual option with the Brewers for next season, but if recent history is any indication, it seems unlikely that the Milwaukee front office will pick up the eight-figure tab to retain Braun beyond this year.
Braun has appeared in 1,727 regular-season games with the Brewers, batting .298 with 344 home runs in his career. Braun won Rookie of the Year in 2007 and the NL MVP in 2012, and is a six-time All Star. Last year, Braun hit 22 home runs and had an OPS of .849, below his career mark of .893.
