Ryan Braun's first-inning grand slam got things off and running for the Milwaukee Brewers, who put up six runs in the first inning en route to a 9-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night. Milwaukee clinched a playoff spot with the win.
Eric Thames and Keston Hiura also homered for Milwaukee.
Jordan Lyles pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two runs. The bullpen combined for four innings of two-hit baseball and no runs given up.
With St. Louis losing on Wednesday, Milwaukee sits a game and a half back of the Cardinals in the NL Central. With a win Thursday, Milwaukee would be one game out of first in the NL Central with a weekend series at Colorado looming. St. Louis faces Chicago for three games over the weekend.
