With their playoff hopes flagging in the final weeks of the season, the Milwaukee Brewers used a four-run third inning to power past the Houston Astros on Tuesday night 4-2 to split their two-game series ahead of Milwaukee's four-game set against the Chicago Cubs this weekend at Miller Park.
Milwaukee trails the Cubs by four games in the NL Wild Card standings.
Eric Thames hit a three-run home run and Jordan Lyles pitched into the seventh inning to pace the Brewers entering an off day Wednesday.
The Brewers-Cubs series is the final meeting between the teams in 2019's regular season.
