In the first of five straight day games, the Milwaukee Brewers averted a three-game sweep at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals, winning 4-1 as Keston Hiura batted in three runs.
Jordan Lyles pitched into the sixth inning, giving up six hits but only allowing one run while striking out nine. Junior Guerra and Josh Hader finished the Cardinals off with three strikeouts apiece.
The win brought Milwaukee back to a five and a half game deficit in the NL Central as they head into a day off. Next up, the Brewers will face the Chicago Cubs, who they trail in the Wild Card standings, for three games at Wrigley Field. The first game is Friday afternoon.
