A six-run second inning allowed the St. Louis Cardinals to take a commanding 8-0 lead early in their 12-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night at Miller Park.
Brewers starter Gio Gonzalez worked five innings in the loss and gave up nine total runs in his outing. Gonzalez allowed nine hits and walked four batters.
The bullpen allowed three more runs, as well as another three hits and three walks, as the Brewers dropped to five and a half games out of first place and two and a half back in the Wild Card standings.
The three-game series continues Tuesday night in Milwaukee.
