Milwaukee's 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning quickly disappeared as the Cardinals put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings en route to St. Louis defeating the Brewers 9-4 on Tuesday night.
After Gio Gonzalez gave the Brewers five innings of solid work, allowing just one run on three hits, the bullpen melted down in the sixth inning. Jeremy Jeffress was touched up for three runs on two hits, and in the seventh inning, Matt Albers allowed four runs on three hits and three walks.
Milwaukee out-hit St. Louis 12-10 in the loss. Lorenzo Cain had three hits, and Ryan Braun, Eric Thames, and Hernan Perez each notched two.
The series finale is Wednesday night in St. Louis, with the Brewers trailing the Cardinals by four games in the NL Central.
