Chicago averted a sweep in Milwaukee with a big 11-4 win over the Brewers, as Kyle Schwarber of the Cubs hit two home runs and drove in seven runs in their victory.
Gio Gonzalez lasted five innings, giving up seven runs and exiting with the Brewers down 7-0. Milwaukee put three on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but the Cubs answered right back with three of their own in the top of the sixth inning.
The Brewers took the series 2-1, but fell a full game back in the NL Central standings behind both the Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals. All three teams have 56 wins, but the Brewers are two back in the loss column.
Milwaukee battles Oakland for three games out west this week to start a nine-game road trip, and will head to Chicago for a three-game weekend series of all day games on Friday.
