Keston Hiura getting called back up to Brewers

One of baseball's top prospects is on his way back to the show: Keston Hiura, along with Tyler Saladino, are being called up to the Milwaukee Brewers, with the struggling Travis Shaw being optioned down to Triple-A San Antonio and Hernan Perez designated for assignment.

Hiura, who is only 22, has torched Triple-A pitching since being sent back down after a short 17-game stint earlier this year with the big league club. He's clubbed 19 home runs with a .321 average and a 1.088 OPS in 243 plate appearances in San Antonio. His MLB stats include five home runs in just 69 plate appearances, with an OPS of .865.

Saladino has also had a hot bat in Triple-A, batting .288 with a .943 OPS and 14 home runs in 246 plate appearances.

Shaw's demotion comes with little surprise, as his batting average this season is a career-low .166 and only six home runs in 209 plate appearances. Shaw also didn't fare so well in Triple-A, batting just .235 in a 10-game stint earlier this season.

Perez being designated for assignment robs the Brewers of some positional versatility, as Perez famously has a glove for all nine defensive positions on the field and played at all of them but catcher in the past two seasons. However, with a career-high pace in strikeout rate and batting just .235 on the season, Milwaukee will hope Saladino can provide some pop off the bench.
