19 hits, 16 runs, and a shutout of the Milwaukee Brewers' offense to boot: The Miami Marlins demolished the home team at Miller Park on Tuesday night, putting up 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning alone.
Starter Chase Anderson left after the fourth inning with the Brewers down 4-0, but the Marlins battered the Brewers in the top of the fifth inning, notching eight earned runs on Taylor Williams, who gave way to the trio of Corbin Burnes, Alex Claudio, and Jacob Barnes. That group allowed six hits and two more earned runs to cross. The bullpen's bright spot? Hernan Perez, who tossed a hitless, scoreless ninth inning in his second mound appearance of the season.
The Brewers' offense could only muster six hits, two of them by Travis Shaw, in the loss.
Game two of the three-game series is Wednesday night at Miller Park.
