Former Milwaukee Brewer Scooter Gennett hit a ninth-inning home run for the Cincinnati Reds to help the Reds break a late tie and win 9-7 on Tuesday night.
Milwaukee got off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the first inning, but the Reds put up three in the third and four in the fourth to help take a 7-5 advantage into the eighth inning. The Brewers managed to tie it there, but Dan Jennings gave up the home run to Gennett in the ninth, and the Reds ended up winning 9-7.
Junior Guerra was tagged for ten hits in his start. Jennings and Corey Knebel each gave up runs in the ninth as the Brewers went through five pitchers in the loss.
With the Cubs' loss, Milwaukee remains three games back of Chicago. The Brewers, Cardinals, and Phillies are all in a virtual tie for the two wild card spots as of the finish of the Brewers game, but Milwaukee trails both of the other teams in the loss column.
