HSGB: Regionals open with few surprises on Tuesday night

Wisconsin's girls basketball state tournament opened up play Tuesday night across all five divisions, with relatively few upsets as chalk prevailed across the state.

In Division 5, nearly every team was in action, and there were only two upsets by seeding (an 11-seed over a 6, and a 10-seed over a 7). The top-line teams in action hammered their opposition.

Divisions 3 and 4 only saw a couple of #9 seed wins over #8 seed teams, with local squads like #5 Edgewood dominating their competition to open up the playoffs.

Stoughton, Sauk Prairie, and Mount Horeb were among the winners in Division 2, which again saw mostly chalk in the opening regional round.

Only five games were played in Division 1, with both Beloit Memorial and Madison West dropping their playoff openers Tuesday night.

Now, play moves on to regional semifinals Friday and regional finals Saturday.
