WIAA Wrestling Tournaments Advance to Sectional Round

Saturday's regionals set the table for both team wrestling sectionals on Tuesday night and individual wrestling sectionals this coming Saturday in high school wrestling.

While nearly every area school sent along at least one wrestler to sectionals in the individual tournament, only a select few teams were able to advance to team sectionals on Tuesday night.

In Division 1, Waunakee will wrestle Holmen at Middleton for a trip to team state on March 5-7 at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison. Stoughton meets Janesville Craig in another sectional final, to be wrestled at Craig High School, Tuesday night as well.

Division 2 features two sectionals with local representation. Unlike Division 1, D-2 has its sectional semifinals and finals on the same night, meaning a team has to win twice to move on to state. In one sectional hosted by Lodi, the Blue Devils will face off against another school with the Blue Devils moniker, Evansville/Albany. The winner of that match-up will face the winner of Richland Center versus Prairie du Chien later on Tuesday evening for a trip to state.

East Troy, a member of the Rock Valley Conference in several sports, will wrestle in the North Fond du Lac sectional in D-2 against Kiel, and if they win, will take on either Lomira or Port Washington for a trip to state.

The southwestern part of the state will have a pair of traditional powers in a Division 3 sectional. Fennimore will take on Royall, while Riverdale squares off with Aquinas, to lead things off. The winning teams in those matches will meet for a trip to state.

State team wrestling will be held March 5 through 7 at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison. For tickets and more information, you can click here.

Individual sectional wrestling will continue this Saturday all across Wisconsin, with host sites for the Madison area including Verona, Oconomowoc, Evansville/Albany (at Evansville), and Dodgeland. You can see the brackets and track results by clicking here.
