Boys and Girls state hockey tournament brackets were released Sunday by the WIAA.
With this week's release of the WIAA State Tournament hockey brackets, it's time to go sectional-by-sectional with Mike Trzinski of WisconsinPrepHockey.net and preview this year's field.
In boys hockey, plenty of familiar faces occupy top slots, including, locally, Verona as the #1 seed in Division 1, Sectional 3. Girls hockey has a trio of state contenders from the Badger Conference, led by #1 seeds Metro Lynx and Rock County Fury in Sectional 3 and Sectional 4, respectively.
Verona has been one of the best teams in the state this year on the boys side, while Metro and Cap City have been among the state's best in girls hockey most of the year as well. In Division 2 boys hockey, Waunakee and McFarland have spent much of the year ranked in the top six, and four of the top six teams in D2 will occupy their Sectional 4 in D-2.
