With a Big 8 championship wrapped up, next up for the Verona Wildcats is the playoffs, where they will be a #1 seed when they take the ice on February 21.
Verona will face either Baraboo/Portage or Madison Memorial in a regional final, as the Wildcats have a first-round bye.
Joel Marshall, the head coach of Verona, told 1070 The Game that a tough regular-season schedule against some of the state's top programs, as well as two turns through the Big 8, have been good preparation for the postseason.
Verona is the #1 seed ahead of Edgewood (2), Sun Prairie (3), and Sauk Prairie (4).
Since winning a state championship in 2014, the Wildcats have been to state twice, losing the past two years in the semifinals. The title in 2014 came after finishing as a runner-up in 2013 and a semifinal loss in 2012. Verona has been to state eight times in school history.
