HSBB: Mark Miller: Jalen Johnson's return impacts Division 2 field

One of the country's top high school basketball players is back in the Badger state.

Mark Miller of the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook joined The Prep Report on 1070 The Game to discuss the return of Jalen Johnson to Wisconsin high school basketball. The former Sun Prairie standout is back at Nicolet, which impacts the Division 2 field.

Miller reported the story on WisSports.net last week.

Nicolet, last year's state champs, was already having a good season without the consensus blue chip prospect, but Johnson's return to a group that also includes his younger brother, Kobe, adds yet another strong contender to a D2 field that also includes La Crosse Central and Onalaska, who are paired in the same sectional.

For all of Division 2, seeing potentially two elite teams in the state championship field rather than perhaps only one shakes things up a bit.

Miller talks about how Johnson became eligible in Wisconsin and some of the playoff impacts, potentially. He also notes that the other teams in those sectionals (and conferences) will have something to say about how the final state tournament field ends up like, and that teams in the other two sectionals will produce strong contenders this year as well in what is a deep D2 field yet again.
